WHAT COLORS SHOULD YOU WEAR?

Photography Portrait Tips for Clients:
Bright solid colors that look good on you and make you feel good are always your best choice. YES, white will make you look pale, but if this is all you can come up with, throw on a scarf with some color. Hats are fun in SOME of the shots. Black is a popular choice, but I like to recommend brown as an alternate to black. It is warmer and adds a nice tone to the photos. Brown can also be used with something bright and contrasting like red. When you use red with black, it is often too bold. You don't want the photos to be about what you are wearing, unless you are a super model advertising a bright color or brand. It is also nice if one or two individuals in the shot have a pattern (preferably on the kids-they can get away with more).

Photography Portrait Tips for Photographers:
White and Black are great if all you photograph are weddings, but encourage a little dash of color. When the entire family of 5 shows up wearing the bright red and black holiday plaid go with the blurred soft focus look.

CHILD PHOTOGRAPHY HINTS AND TIPS:

Photography Portrait Tips for Clients:
Nothing is more precious than allowing a child to just "BE". These are always the photos you want to display when your little sweetie has been captured doing what they do best...being themselves. Don't worry about an occasional tear. There is no sound in photographs!

Photography Portrait Tips for Photographers:
GET RID OF THE PARENTS! Send them off for an hour for coffee (this works if you have experience with kids of your own, lots of patience, and no criminal record). If that isn't an option put your parents on a park bench and walk (far) away. Nothing kills a shot faster than the words with THE TONE "I told you to sit still and smile". Uh huh ya right. If parents are in the photos casually with a sense of humor mention up front (not in front of the kids) there will be no "parenting" for the duration of the photo session. When a child is whiny, bored and pushes your buttons (heck, sounds like dating) let them have "their moment". When they don't get a reaction from you they will stop. This is your opportunity to bring in a sense of humor. The child will laugh with you, trust you and know they are going to have fun, and Ta Da you just got a great natural smile-be ready!!
