Photography Lighting Basics!

Simplify Using Your Flash With Portraits

Here is another tip for Photography Lighting Basics when your subject is a person.

If you are just starting out taking portraiture photographs this is a great place to begin until you feel more confident exploring with your camera's manual mode.

You will love the look and ease of this basic selection when taking photographs of people. Using a high speed sync (FP flash), the flash will synchronize with all shutter speeds. This makes it very simple when you want to use aperture priority for fill-flash portraits.

Select ETTL and the flash icon on your speed light, and set your camera to aperture priority mode, and that is it. Simple and beautiful portraits every time.

A note to remember: the faster the shutter speed, the shorter the effective flash range will become.
