How to Create a Brochure!

Here are some basic guidelines for how to create a brochure if you are wanting to design your own free brochure layout.

The standard press sheet size for any printing company is 11x17. You will be charged per press sheet. So, if you can fit two brochures on one press sheet you will get two for one. This is possible for a single fold brochure.
We prefer an 11 x 14 layout, and most of our design samples are shown with these dimensions.

Begin by opening your file menu choose NEW. We use Photoshop but many of the new programs have these same features. Choose the size and the color of your brochure. If you are choosing black you will want your values to look like this:

C-75 M-68 Y-67 K-90 or C-40% Y-30% Mag-30%

You can create any size border around your total design using your guides (your guides become active in the view menu). If you are wanting the edges to bleed around each corner you will do this when you SAVE the final file by adding .1 to your document size. For example:(from the image menu) 11.1 x 14.1 From the IMAGE MODE menu select CMYK and save as JPEG. It is no longer necessary to save as a tiff file, and if you are using an online printer you will need the file to be a JPEG.
