The technology behind digital camera's is truly amazing, and now camera's that fit in the palm of your hand are no exception. Just a few short years ago it was difficult to get a good shot with a point and shoot camera because light was always an issue as well as limited number of pixels. The specific settings for most of these little camera's helped some, but it took some guessing, trial and error and luck to get a good shot....well no more...

If you carry your camera for candid shots and just want to pull it out of your pocket and shoot you can now rely on the camera's general setting to evaluate the scene and give you the best exposure possible. The only reason to take it out of the standard mode is if you want to experiment and play, but overall you can trust the camera's basic settings to give you a great photo.

With Your Point And Shoot

To capture a good shot of a product that you will use for advertising or your website follow these simple tips.

Option 1: A cloudy day will always create the best shooting conditions. Don't use a flash The next best thing is to shoot outdoors in the shade, again, no flash. Use a solid colored background like black. (You can buy a piece of foam board at your local craft store for a few dollars, go with black.) Make sure the black fills the entire frame on your camera. It doesn't look professional with a carpet background or anything that is too busy that might identify the photo as a "home job".

OPTION 2: The best and most flattering, if you don't mind a little more effort, is to shoot outdoors again. No flash. This time direct sunlight, even noon is the perfect time of day. Create a tent over your product and camera with a white sheet. Again, shoot on a black surface and make sure the black fills the entire area of your shot.
